I’m Nicky Avery, the crochet designer, blogger & yarn dyer behind Avery Lane Creations & ALC Yarns. When I first started crocheting, I didn’t know a single person near me who crocheted so I went online and found some Facebook communities to join. I decided to start a business page so I could get to know other crocheters and start a community of my own. I wanted to create a space where everyone felt welcome and there was a positive, uplifting and inspiring vibe to it. Crocheting is a form of therapy for so many of us and I couldn’t control what was going on in some of the groups but I could on my page. I just fell more and more in love with crocheting and the amazing community. I decided to start a blog so I could give more to the crochet community with free crochet patterns, video tutorials and tips. In December of 2019, I decided to give yarn dyeing a try and quickly became obsessed with it. I shared my journey with my Facebook community and they talked me into selling my yarn and eventually starting the ALC Yarn Club 5 months later. I was able to grow my business and leave my 20 year career to work full time doing what I love in my handmade business. Now I am passionate about helping other creative women recognize their potential and turn their business dreams into a reality with my Maker’s Momentum Inner Circle. I strongly believe in community over competition and I now co-host a Makers Gonna Sell Podcast with a fellow indie dyer, where we share tips and strategies with fellow makers so they can launch, grow, and scale their creative businesses.
Zoey the pup is never far from Nicky’s side and is the real boss behind Avery Lane Creations!
